Course Booklets

NOTE: All ACE weekly classes have a printed and bound course booklet.

NOTE: Due to massive printing price increases, course booklets will no longer be available in printed form for free Prep101 prep sessions.

Important Information About Course Booklets

FACT 1: I make course booklets for EVERY course I teach a prep course for. They are included in the price when you sign up for a prep session at prep101.com.  A course booklet is not a set number of pages. The booklet size is based on how much content and questions are required to thoroughly cover the course concepts.

FACT 2: I have personally gone through ALL course booklets to make sure all material is relevant to THIS year’s course.   You can bet that if some material is in there that is not directly taught, there is a good reason for it.

For example, in Calc 1000, I will review trig equations as they are VERY poorly done in high school and sometimes show up on midterms.  I sometimes teach L’Hospitals rule early as the vast majority of students DESPISE factoring, so I like them to have a way to check their answers. I also leave the brutal limits in so I can tell students some limits that will help them with quizzes/assignments after the midterm, even though they are not directly tested until the final exam.

In AM1201, I will teach equations of planes just in case as it is in the textbook, but they didn’t include it in lectures last year. So many times over the years a student will say that something wasn’t done in class and then it appeared on the exam anyway. I like to be safe and not sorry later. Especially when it takes 2 minutes to show you. I also teach cross product as it is much simpler than the method used in class to solve a particular problem.

These are a few examples of topics I introduce in my booklets.

FACT 3: Some instructors claim 100 pages is too long. I STRONGLY disagree.  In my opinion, a course booklet should be as long as required to teach and TEST all concepts. I can’t count the number of times in high school and university that I did a type of problem and struggled with it and then when studying for the test, I had no NEW problems to try.   The vast majority of my students GREATLY appreciate my booklets and their length. I have NUMEROUS comments each year about other companies course booklets or study booklets being way too short and lacking in practice. I never want my students to find my booklets inadequate.  Now, if a student finds it too long and that overwhelms them, that is a different story. I always tell my students, you don’t need to do the whole booklet. Very few do. BUT, the point of my booklet is that EVERY student is an individual and has individual needs. Your friend might need more practice on sections A, F and G, while you are weakest at sections B, C and E.  My booklets ensure there are PLENTY of questions to practice every concept. That way, each student can do some of the questions in each section, but on any section they struggle with, they can do TONS!!! I have been doing prep sessions for many years and my students are VERY successful, so I will keep doing what I do best- TEACHING!!

I hope to see you at one of my prep sessions through prep101 very soon!!!
